The Martin B-26 Marauder - J K Havener - softcover

Regular price $19.95

An in-depth look at one of WWII's most famous combat aircraft!
From the day of its inception the Martin B-26 Marauder was a controversial aircraft design. Critics charged that it possessed no margin of safety for crewmembers and was difficult to fly. Heavily armed and ruggedly built, the Marauder, however, was a fearsome adversary, and actual combat losses to Marauder units were fewer than those suffered by heavy bomber groups.
This book tells the story of the World War II Marauders and the people who designed, built, and flew them. The precise handling techniques demanded by the B-26 made pilots particularly important. Called the "widow-maker," the plane's alarmingly high accident rate brought on a Congressional investigation and calls for the termination of the Marauder program. How this boldly designed aircraft was saved to become an outstanding combat airplane is recounted here.
J. K. Havener piloted more than 50 combat missions in Martin B-26 Marauders during World War II, and was also a B-26 transitional training instructor.
