9 July 1943 - U.S. infantry invades New Georgia.
No one knew what the next step might bring. It was impossible for platoons, or even squads, to advance abreast: forget about companies, battalions, and regiments. Columns of infantry-men were forced along clearly discernible paths. Japanese riflemen harassed the front and flanks in brief hit-and-run flurries of fire before scurrying off without so much as being seen by the victims. Scouts roving ahead of the infantry battalions and pointmen leading the infantry platoons were being shot with sickening regularity. Only a few Japanese were holding up nearly 4,000 American infantrymen.
This copy is in Good condition. There is coloring and some marking of the page edges and dust jacket. There is some minor shelf wear. As always, the photos are of the book you will receive.
