The Messerschmitt Bf 110 was designed in response to a 1934 specification for a long-range escort fighter and Zerstorer (destroyer) aircraft. Over 6000 Messerschmitt Bf110s were manufactured for a variety of roles including assault and night-fighter during the Second World War.
