War has played a central role in Australia's recent history. Since 1860, Australian forces have been sent abroad to serve in nine major conflicts. Most Australian families have been affected in some way by war.
FOR AUSTRALIA'S SAKE tells the story of Australia's involvement in these wars, both on the battlefront and at home. Using commentary, and a selection of primary and secondary source material, photographs and maps drawn from the vast resources of the Australian War Memorial and the Mitchell Library, the authors have produced a vivid recreation of Australia's response to each war - from the early Maori and Boer conflicts to Korea and Vietnam.
