Oral historian Walter Camp (1867-1925) interviewed around 200 survivors of the Indian Wars, including many Indians who participated in the fighting. He had a particular interest in General Custer and the Battle of the Little Big Horn and spoke or corresponded with 109 individuals who had either belonged to Custer's cavalry or to his Indian Scout force, or were civilian employees attached to his regiment.
