This book concentrates on Justinian's Western campaigns. Justinian the Great (527-565AD) was arguably the greatest Emperor after Augustus. Scraping together armies from the remnants of Imperial garrisons, fro allied barbarian tribes and most importantly from the bodyguards of his generals, Justinaian had, by the end of his reign, succeeded in his military objectives and had made the Mediterranean once again a 'Roman lake'.
